HI THERE!

How I got started PLAYING GUITAR

GUITAR TALK..... I'd like to Share with you about how I got started playing this   AWESOME Instrument . When I was about 9 years old there was a group of kids that came to our school class room. They stood in front of our class about 6 children and they played the violin.  I was so moved with excitement that I wanted to learn to play the violin. The music was so beautiful. So after school I went home and told my mom that I wanted to learn how to play the violin. She said, "honey, why don't you learn how to play guitar you love to sing and violets, I mean violins are so expensive ."  We didn't have very much money at that time. We lived on state money called welfare because my parents were divorced. So I agreed with my mom. My moms boy friend loaned me his guitar. Soon my mom sent me to my first guitar lesson complaining about how expensive it was. Then I came home from my guitar lesson complaining about how I did not like the teacher and never wanted to go back. He was very unfriendly and he was not very encouraging at all! Well I did learn how to play one song called something like, I ride my bike I roller skate don't drive no car.  Eventually my mom broke up with her boy friend and I had to give him back his guitar

Well my first experience didn't turn out so great.  But, I went right on singing and listening to music anyway! That was along time ago and now I'm 36years old.   Well about two years ago when I was 34 I had a dream, Wright before I woke up one morning I saw myself playing the guitar. Wow me, playing the guitar! at my old age! I couldn't stop thinking about it. I felt in my heart the Lord was encouraging me to learn how to play. The previous months before I had the dream, I was getting these little tunes in my head so I started writing some simple songs. I was so excited! Soon my husband Randal (mighty computer man) bought me my first guitar from Costco, a lovely acoustic guitar. We looked in the news paper and drove all the way to the other side of town to look at a used guitar. The man selling it was a VIOLIN teacher! He was nice and we almost bought the guitar he was selling but  we decided to get the one we saw at Costco because it had a guitar Case, guitar strap, Extra guitar strings, a small tuner and other accessories. Soon after I was on my way to strumming!

IMPORTANT TIPS ON BUYING A GUITAR!   I learned some very important things about  BUYING the perfect guitar ! This made learning and playing the guitar much easier for me. I want to share these important tips with you. So you too can get off to a good start. There are many different kinds of guitars out there in the big world!  I found out right away that some guitars are easier to play than others! The closer the strings are to the fret board the easier it is to press down. But if the strings are TOO close you wont get a clear sound. You will know right away if the strings are two close . Here's how: Press down some strings above the silver lines (they are called FRETS) going across the neck of the guitar and look to see if the strings are touching the fret below the one your your pressing down 0n. The strings should touch the fret your pressing on but not touch on the frets below.  Now don't fret just be patient. If you hear a buzzing sound and the strings are touching the fret below then the strings are too close and the guitar has a problem!   You can put light weight strings on a guitar. I use the extra light strings and they sound Great. That too helps a lot! What you want to do is find a guitar that is semi easy to learn and play on. On my first guitar I did learn some things but I realized how hard it was to press my strings down. The strings were too high above the fret board for me and I had to press down too hard. Some guitars are much BIGGER than others . Some people are bigger with long arms and long big fingers and some people are small with short arms and short little fingers. Look for a guitar that will fit you comfortably. Really shop around if your going to buy a guitar don't buy the first one you see, unless you feel a peace about it.  I found myself getting a different guitar . I wasn't happy with my guitar after playing my friends guitar. The acoustic guitar I had gotten at Costco the strings were too hard to press down. The pink electric guitar I later bought was great playing for my fingers, it had a nice  thin fret board for my short fingers, But it was very heavy and waited down for me . My pink guitar got stolen. But God really turned it for my GOOD.  I had learned enough to know I was going to really shop for the perfect one for me. I found a great new electric guitar perfect for me . The brand name of the guitar was called a Danelectro It was an electric and an acoustic. Very light weight and sounds so beautiful . I was able to really begin playing my guitar much better. You can also visit the danelecto web site but be careful if you plan on going to a music web site, your eyes are a light to your spirit  .  Also I recommend that you go to a large guitar store Like a Guitars ex or Guitar center . You can get over charged at a small music store. We Have a MUSIC GO ROUND near us it is a used music store. They have good prices too. Near Christmas time they have some good sales. And some places have a lay away plan.  SO.. do you HEAR what I'm saying? how a guitar looks doesn't make it sound good or easy to play. The best thing to do is pray about it . Ask God to help you FIND A GUITAR that works for you! Don't be in a hurry, Try to take some time and really shop  around. Be nice and Go easy on your parents too.   If you can barrow a guitar or find one at a garage sale or second hand store that would be great. Be careful to look over the guitar really well to make sure it isn't broken. If there are scratches that's ok as long as it sounds good! Because if you get playing really good, and I know you will! then you can always get a pretty Fancy guitar for your self later!!   Take your time there's no hurry! Practice as often as you can! But, let it be an enjoyable experience. Music was made for our enjoyment and to worship God with. Worship and love the lord with a your stringed instrument.

AT FIRST IT WAS HARD AND I SOUNDED SOOO BAD AND IT WAS FRUSTRATING BUT I PERSEVERED AND PRESSED ON PRAYING

The first thing I did was I bought a Guitar book called Ten easy steps to playing guitar. Then my friend Lanai showed me a few things. It all seemed so overwhelming at first. My husband had what's called a trained ear. He had been in professional singing classes when he was young and new all the notes from hearing the voice teacher play piano, and he could tell when I was singing off key. Well, my ear wasn't trained it takes a while for your ears to be TRAINED! I didn't understand. What he meant when he said I wasn't singing in the right key simply means; I was singing higher or lower than the notes (sounds) I was strumming on the guitar. That's ok! In the beginning my strumming was so bad I could not hear myself. Singing and humming along Helped me to play better!! So don't worry about what anyone says. Just find a nice quiet place where you can be alone to practice, read and concentrate. Get familiar with your guitar. If its noisy in the house go out side and sit by a tree on a blanket. Soon your ear will get trained and you will be able to hear notes. If you need some encouragement just email me! SOON you'll be sounding GREAT! Remember it takes a while to learn just Like roller skating or swimming. But after a while its like making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or riding a bike! I imagined that I was going to have big bloody blisters on my fingers! Well, that never happened. PRAISE GOD! Some times they get a little bit soar . But  just wait a couple of days and then play some more!  I feel its important to practice as often as you can. I leave my guitar out where I can see it so I don't forget about it. You might have to put yours away so no one hurts it. But you can put up a nice SIGN to remind yourself to practice when you bored! I learned to play the easiest songs I new . Now my husband and friends are playing TOO!

You can get guitar books on HOW TO PLAY GUITAR at the LIBRARY. You can also read up before you make any decisions. You can play the guitars at the music stores to get a feel for it. Don't let the sales person talk you into something your not sure about. Tell them your just looking! there pretty nice. Ask them if they have a pic you can use for strumming.  I LIKE A NICE THIN PIC  If you tell them you are a beginner usually they will love to tell you free information especially if they play GUITAR! I learned a lot that way. Also I was brave and asked questions!  I found That guitar lessons were to expensive and good teachers hard to find. One thing that helped me a lot was I bought for 10.00 a LEARN to play guitar Video to watch on the TV. I found it at the used guitar store.

Then I bought a great software guitar program for my computer called TEACH ME GUITAR (BY VOYETRA)

I love it! You can play along fast or slow. I bought mine for 35.00 dollars at a computer software store called comp USA. That was very inexpensive compared  to 30.00 dollars for a 1/2 hour lesson!!  There are many guitar software programs. Also you might find a class. There was someone giving free lessons at a church near by! May the lord bless you and I pray you learn to worship him!! The bible says, in......      Psalms 150

1. Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with
stringed instruments and organs.
5. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
