First Female Fortune 500 CEO

Have you ever wondered who the first girl CEO was? Well, her name was Katharine Graham and she was the boss of The Washington Post Company from 1963 to 1991.

Katharine became the first female CEO of a Fortune 500 company, which is a big deal! She took over the company after her husband passed away and even though she had never run a big corporation before, she was a natural leader.

During her time as CEO, Katharine helped the company grow by buying other newspapers like The New York Times and the Daily News. She also made sure the newspaper reported on important events like the Watergate scandal, which led to the resignation of President Nixon. The Washington Post even won a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting on Watergate.

Katharine was also a trailblazer in the newspaper industry. She was the first woman to be elected to the Newspaper Publishers Association and the American Society of Newspaper Editors. She was also the first woman to be on the board of directors of the Associated Press.

All in all, Katharine Graham was a pretty amazing woman who broke barriers and made history as the first girl CEO of a Fortune 500 company. She did a lot for the newspaper industry and helped pave the way for other women to become leaders in the business world.
